Project Description

The Kean University Adjunct Faculty Federation (KUAFF), AFT Local 6024, needed more than a promotional video; it needed strategic organizational video production.

The union wanted an evergreen communications asset that could demonstrate the value adjunct professors bring to Kean University and its students while helping eligible faculty understand KUAFF, its role, and the value of union participation.

The finished piece also needed to authentically represent KUAFF while meeting the communications standards expected within a university environment.

Remeoner partnered with KUAFF leadership to transform those objectives through organizational video production, creating a concise communications asset designed to work across digital, social, presentation, and institutional channels.

The Challenge: Organizational Video Production for Multiple Communication Goals

KUAFF represents adjunct faculty across Kean University. Its members bring academic expertise, professional experience, industry knowledge, and real-world connections into the classroom, while the union provides advocacy, representation, professional support, and a collective voice.

The video needed to communicate both sides of that story.

For current and prospective members:

Why does KUAFF matter to me?

For the broader university community:

Why do adjunct faculty matter to Kean University and its students?

That meant the project could not simply function as a recruitment advertisement.

From the beginning, KUAFF and Remeoner envisioned an evergreen communications asset capable of supporting current members, newly hired adjunct faculty, prospective members, and broader university-facing distribution.

There was also an important institutional change looming in the background.

While the project was being developed, the anticipated merger between Kean University and New Jersey City University meant KUAFF would eventually need to engage an expanding population of adjunct faculty entering the Kean University system.

The merger was not the original reason for producing the video, but as the institutional transition approached, its importance to the project increased. During the final stages of production, KUAFF leadership directly connected the growing urgency surrounding completion of the video with the arrival of the NJCU community.

On July 1, 2026, Kean University and New Jersey City University completed their merger, establishing Kean Jersey City.

What began as a need for stronger KUAFF communications had become even more timely: the union needed an asset capable of introducing its role and value not only to its existing audience, but also to adjunct faculty entering an evolving Kean University system.

KUAFF Video Production Planning Worksheet

Remeoner developed a detailed production worksheet to map the planned shots, story functions, locations, and filming priorities for the KUAFF video.

Adapting Production Without Losing the Strategy

Production took place across multiple sessions between April and June 2026.

Adjunct faculty schedules, classroom access, interviews, meetings, and other real-world production considerations made the original concentrated filming schedule difficult to maintain.

Remeoner captured professors teaching in their classrooms, faculty interviews, union leadership, membership and board meetings, campus B-roll, and Grayson’s primary narration across multiple production sessions.

As production evolved, the original visual roadmap became a strategic reference point rather than a rigid checklist.

The method could change. The communication objective could not.

That allowed Remeoner to adapt to the realities of production without losing sight of the story KUAFF needed to tell.

Building the Visual Story Around the Message

During post-production, Grayson’s recorded narration became the spine of the finished piece.

Remeoner prioritized original KUAFF and Kean footage wherever it effectively supported what the audience was hearing. When concepts in the narration could not be represented clearly through available original footage, carefully selected stock imagery, motion graphics, text, and visual treatments helped bridge those gaps.

The goal was not to make sourced footage appear to document something that happened at Kean. It was to preserve the authenticity of the organization while ensuring the visuals continued moving the message forward.

Representation also remained an active consideration throughout the edit.

Remeoner monitored the balance of faculty and leadership, classroom and union environments, age, gender, race, and how frequently individuals appeared on screen.

Grayson’s voice could provide narrative continuity without allowing the visual story to become solely about the union president.

The finished piece needed to represent KUAFF as a collective organization.

Refining the Final Video

The video developed across four drafts.

Early versions revealed opportunities to strengthen the introduction, refine transitions, improve visual selections, and tighten the overall narrative.

KUAFF’s communications leadership provided another informed perspective during refinement. That collaboration contributed to decisions including changing the music bed to introduce greater energy and removing portions of the original narration to make the final message more concise.

The production ultimately moved from approximately 2 minutes and 28 seconds to a final runtime of 2 minutes and 8 seconds.

The refinement process combined client insight with Remeoner’s creative and technical judgment while keeping the larger communications objective at the center of each decision.

Designed to Work Beyond a Single Channel

The video was never intended to live in only one place.

From pre-production, the strategy anticipated use across KUAFF’s website, social media, presentations, campus environments, and broader university-facing distribution.

Captioning was incorporated to support accessibility and sound-off viewing, and the final video was prepared for YouTube with optional captions rather than permanently embedding them into the visual presentation.

The result was a flexible communications asset designed to maintain its core message across different viewing environments.

That flexibility became increasingly valuable as the university itself changed.

The Result: Approval at Every Required Level

The finished production needed to satisfy more than the people who commissioned it.

Before broader distribution, the video required approval from the KUAFF Executive Board and review within Kean University’s institutional environment.

Unanimous KUAFF Executive Board Approval

All seven members of the KUAFF Executive Board voted to approve the finished video.

That unanimous response provided an important measure of success: the people responsible for representing the union agreed that the finished piece accurately reflected KUAFF and its membership.

Professional Validation from University Relations

Kean University’s Office of University Relations also responded strongly to the production.

University multimedia leadership specifically praised the video’s quality, pacing, messaging, and overall polish, comparing the finished work favorably with professional video produced within the university environment.

For Remeoner, that represented more than another approval. It provided validation from professionals responsible for institutional multimedia communications.

Legal Approval Opened Another Distribution Opportunity

Kean’s Legal/Labor Counsel approved the video as well.

But Legal did more than clear the finished work.

The university proactively connected with its teaching and learning resources regarding the possibility of incorporating the KUAFF video into an online orientation environment for new instructors.

That potential placement aligned remarkably well with the communication challenge that had become increasingly urgent as the project progressed.

The Kean-NJCU merger was complete. Kean Jersey City was becoming part of the larger university system. KUAFF now had an expanding population of faculty to introduce to the union and its role.

A video deliberately developed as an evergreen communications asset now had a potential institutional pathway to reach new instructors as they entered that environment.

The video had moved beyond simply receiving approval.

Another university stakeholder identified a new place for the asset to do the work it was created to do.

From Video Project to Continuing Creative Relationship

The original video engagement concluded in August 2026, but the creative relationship did not end with delivery.

During the project’s closing conversation, President Grayson encouraged Remeoner to proactively identify and propose additional marketing initiatives that could further KUAFF’s communications goals.

That represents a meaningful evolution in the relationship.

Remeoner was initially engaged to help KUAFF develop and produce a video.

The success of the engagement created an opportunity to contribute more broadly to what the organization communicates next.

The production also generated valuable assets beyond what appeared in the final edit. Faculty interviews and additional original footage remain available for potential future communications initiatives rather than being forced into a video where they did not strengthen the story.

The finished video may therefore be the first communications asset to emerge from the production—not necessarily the last.

Organizational Video Production Built Around the Communication Goal

Remeoner combines marketing strategy, professional video production, visual storytelling, design, and technical execution to help businesses, nonprofits, associations, unions, and community-focused organizations communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively.

Whether the objective is organizational storytelling, recruitment, awareness, education, or long-term content development, production should begin with a more important question than:

What should we film?

It should begin with:

What does the audience need to understand—and what does the organization need the finished asset to accomplish?
